Soft Rava Upma


1 cup roasted rava/ semolina
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
1 green chilli, finely chopped
1 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
1/4-1/2 cup carrot, grated
salt to taste
1 tsp urad dal
2 dry red chillies
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 sprig curry leaves
1 1/2 tbsp ghee/ oil
3 1/4 – 3 1/2 cup water


  1. Heat ghee in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  2. Add urad dal, dry red chillies, curry leaves, chopped green chilli, ginger, onion and carrot and saute well.
  3. Add water and salt to this and when it starts to boil, reduce the flame and add roasted rava and mix well.
  4. Cook on low flame, stirring in between, till all the water has evaporated and it becomes soft.
  5. Remove it from flame and serve hot..
