Unakka Nangu / Dry Sole Fish Chammanthi

Ingredients:

2 big dry sole fish / unakka nangu / unakka manthal
8 dry red chillies
4 shallots
1/2 inch piece ginger
3/4 cup grated coconut
small gooseberry sized tamarind
1 sprig curry leaves
salt to taste
3 tbsp coconut oil

Preparation:

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan and add cleaned dry fish and fry till crispy. Keep it aside.
  2. To the remaining oil add dry red chillies, shallots and ginger and roast well. Remove it from oil.
  3. In a blender, add grated coconut, curry leaves, tamarind, fried red chillies, shallots, ginger and dry fish and crush well.
  4. Transfer this to remaining oil in the pan and add little salt and roast well at low flame for 5-6 minutes. Switch off the flame and serve with rice…
