Aloo Matar Masala / Potato and Green Peas Masala (Pressure Cooker Method)


2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 cup green peas (fresh / frozen)
1 big onion, chopped
1 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tbsp gram flour / besan / kadalamavu
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsp kashmiri chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/4 tsp cumin powder
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp cumin seeds
salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped


  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and splutter cinnamon stick and cumin seeds.
  2. Add chopped onion and ginger-garlic paste and saute well.
  3. Add gram flour and turmeric powder and saute till raw smell goes off.
  4. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and cumin powder and mix well.
  5. Add chopped tomato and saute and cook till soft and mushy.
  6. Add cubed potatoes, green peas and enough salt and mix well.
  7. Add about 1 1/2 cup of water, mix well and cook covered for 2 whistles.
  8. Add chopped coriander leaves and sprinkle little garam masala and mix well. Serve hot with neer dosa, chapati, rice etc..
