Cherupayar Nendrapazham Ghee Roast / Green Gram – Banana Ghee Roast


1/3 cup green gram / cherupayar
2 ripe bananas / nendrapazham, chopped into cubes
100-120 gm jaggery
1/2 cup grated coconut
10-12 cashew nuts
10 raisins
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
1/4 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp ghee
1/2 tsp salt


  1. Wash and soak green gram in water for 3 hours and pressure cook it adding little salt and enough water. Drain the excess water and keep it aside. ( Don’t overcook ).
  2. Heat ghee in a pan and add cashew nuts and raisins and saute.
  3. Add chopped bananas and saute till golden brown. Keep it aside.
  4. Melt jaggery adding 1/4 cup of water in a pan , strain it and keep it aside..
  5. Heat a pan and add the melted jaggery and grated coconut and mix well for few minutes.
  6. Add cardamom powder, cumin powder and sesame seeds and mix well.
  7. Add cooked green gram and mix it well and cook at low-medium flame until all the water evaporates.
  8. Then add banana mixture and mix well at low flame. Switch off the flame and serve…
