Vendakka Thairu Curry / Okra Curd Curry


250 gm okra / vendakka
1 1/4 cup yogurt / curd
1/2 onion, chopped
1 tbsp ginger, crushed
3 green chillies, chopped
1 small tomato (3 tbsp) , chopped
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp asafoetida
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp urad dal
2 dry red chillies
1 sprig curry leaves
salt to taste
1 1/2 tbsp coconut oil


  1. Wash and chop the okra into pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add cumin seeds, urad dal, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
  3. Add chopped okra and mix well.
  4. Add crushed ginger and chopped green chillies and saute well till the okra gets cooked.
  5. Add salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida and mix well till the raw smell goes.
  6. Then add chopped tomato into this and saute well till soft. Switch off the flame.
  7. In a bowl, add beaten yogurt and chopped onion and mix well.
