Little Millet Upma


1 cup little millet
2 cups water ( used for soaking little millet )
1 onion, chopped
2 green chillies, finely chopped
1 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
1 carrot, grated
8 beans, chopped
1/2 cup green peas
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
1/2 cup grated coconut
1 tsp urad dal
2 dry red chillies
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 sprig curry leaves
1 1/2 tbsp ghee
1 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped


  1. Wash and soak little millet in 2 cups of water overnight. Drain the water and keep it aside.
  2. Boil the water used for soaking little millet ( to use it for cooking upma).
  3. Heat ghee in a thick bottomed pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  4. Add urad dal, dry red chillies, curry leaves, chopped ginger, green chillies and onion and saute till transparent.
  5. Add chopped beans, carrot and green peas and saute well.
  6. Add turmeric powder into this and mix well.
  7. Then add drained little millet and salt and mix well.
  8. Now add 2 cups of boiling water (used for soaking little millet) and mix well. When it starts to boil, cook covered at low- medium flame, stirring in between.
  9. When it is almost dry, add grated coconut and mix well.
  10. Add chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Remove it from flame and serve hot…
