Thengapal Potato Bhaji / Potato Curry with Coconut Milk


2 large potatoes, chopped
1/4 cup carrot, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
2-3 green chillies, slit
small piece ginger, chopped
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 cup coconut milk
2 dry red chillies
1 sprig curry leaves
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
salt to taste
1/4-1/2 tsp pepper powder
2 tsp oil


  1. Peel and chop potatoes and carrot into small cubes.
  2. In a pan, add chopped potato, carrot, onion, green chillies, ginger, turmeric powder and salt and cook covered adding enough water till soft and cooked well.
  3. Add coconut milk to this, mix well and heat for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Heat oil in a small pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add dry red chillies and curry leaves and fry.
  5. Add this seasoning to potato curry and mix well.
  6. Add pepper powder and mix well. Serve hot with dosa, appam etc…
