Pumpkin – Tomato Pachadi / Mathanga Thakkali Pachadi


2 cups pumpkin/ mathanga, peeled and chopped
2 tomato, chopped
2 green chillies, chopped
1 1/2 tsp ginger, finely chopped
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
1 – 1 1/2 cup yogurt
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp mustard seeds
4 shallots, sliced
2 dry red chillies
1 sprig curry leaves


  1. In a pan, add chopped pumpkin, tomato, green chillies, ginger, chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt and cook it adding 1 cup of water. Don’t overcook the pumpkin.
  2. Remove it from the flame and keep it aside to cool.
  3. Then add yogurt and mix well. Add sugar into this and mix well. Adjust the salt.
  4. Heat 1 1/2 tbsp coconut oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  5. Add sliced shallots, dry red chillies and curry leaves and fry till golden brown.
  6. Pour this over the pachadi and lightly mix and serve with riceā€¦
