Raw Plantain / Pachakaya Aviyal

Ingredients:

3 raw banana/ raw plantain/ pachakaya

1/2 tsp + 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp chilli powder

1 1/4 - 1 1/2 cup grated coconut

4-5 green chillies

3 shallots

2 garlic cloves

3/4 tsp cumin seeds

1 cup less sour yogurt

salt to taste

2 sprig curry leaves

1 1/2 tbsp coconut oil

Preparation:

  1. Peel and cut the raw plantains into thin slices.
  2. Grind together grated coconut, green chillies, shallots, garlic cloves, cumin seeds, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and few curry leaves to a coarse mixture and keep it aside.
  3. In a pan, add raw plantains slices and cook it covered adding 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and about 1 1/2 cup of water (or as required).
  4. When cooked and water is mostly evaporated, add ground coconut mixture and mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes on low-medium flame till the raw taste of coconut mixture is gone.
  5. Then add yogurt and gently mix well and cook covered for 2-3 minutes at low flame. Adjust the salt.
  6. Switch off the flame and add coconut oil and curry leaves and mix well. Serve with rice….
