Ingredients:


1/2 cup pearl barley

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 small carrot, finely chopped

1/4 cup beans, finely chopped

2 tbsp green peas

2 green chillies, finely chopped

small piece ginger, finely chopped

1 sprig curry leaves

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp urad dal

1 tsp mustard seeds

2 dry red chillies

salt to taste

1-2 tsp lemon juice

1 1/2 tbsp oil / ghee


Preparation:


  1. Wash the barley and pressure cook it adding about 4 cups of water for 4-5 whistles until well cooked, but not mushy. Drain excess water and keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil / ghee in a thick bottomed pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  3. Add urad dal, dry red chillies, curry leaves, chopped ginger, green chillies and onion and saute till transparent.
  4. Add chopped beans, carrot and green peas and saute well.
  5. Add turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  6. Then add cooked barley and mix well and cook covered at low flame for 2-3 minutes. stirring in between.
  7. Switch off the flame and stir in the lemon juice and then serve...
