Ingredients:
1/2 cup pearl barley
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 small carrot, finely chopped
1/4 cup beans, finely chopped
2 tbsp green peas
2 green chillies, finely chopped
small piece ginger, finely chopped
1 sprig curry leaves
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp urad dal
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 dry red chillies
salt to taste
1-2 tsp lemon juice
1 1/2 tbsp oil / ghee
Preparation:
- Wash the barley and pressure cook it adding about 4 cups of water for 4-5 whistles until well cooked, but not mushy. Drain excess water and keep it aside.
- Heat oil / ghee in a thick bottomed pan and splutter mustard seeds.
- Add urad dal, dry red chillies, curry leaves, chopped ginger, green chillies and onion and saute till transparent.
- Add chopped beans, carrot and green peas and saute well.
- Add turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
- Then add cooked barley and mix well and cook covered at low flame for 2-3 minutes. stirring in between.
