Beef Peralan

Ingredients:

1/2 kg beef, cut into pieces

25-30 shallots, sliced

1 onion, chopped

1/2 cup coconut slices/ thenga kothu

2 tbsp crushed ginger-garlic

2 green chillies, slit

1/4 + 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1 1/2 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder

1/2 tbsp red chilli powder

1 tbsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp pepper powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

1/2 tsp fennel powder

salt to taste

2 sprig curry leaves

5-6 tbsp coconut oil

Preparation:

  1. Heat 4-5 tbsp coconut oil in a pressure cooker and add coconut slices, sliced shallots and chopped onion and saute well.
  2. Add crushed ginger-garlic, slit green chillies and curry leaves and saute well till the raw smell goes.
  3. Add cleaned beef pieces, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and salt, mix well and pressure cook for 4-6 whistles or till beef pieces are cooked.
  4. In a pan, dry roast kashmiri chilli powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, garam masala and fennel powder.
  5. Add this roasted powders to the cooked beef and mix well and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Add water if required and cook at low flame till the oil separates. Adjust the salt.
  7. Heat 1 tbsp coconut oil in a pan and fry 2-3 sliced shallots and curry leaves. Add a pinch of pepper powder and garam masala and mix well.
  8. Add this seasoning to the beef curry and mix well. Serve hot with pathiri, ghee rice, appam etc..
