Ingredients:
1/2 cup cabbage, chopped
1/4 cup roasted gram / pottukadala
1/4 cup shallots, chopped
2 green chillies
2 garlic cloves
small piece ginger
small gooseberry sized tamarind
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp chana dal
1 tsp urad dal
1/2 tsp asafoetida
1 dry red chilli
1 sprig curry leaves
1 tsp mustard seeds
salt to taste
1 tbsp + 1 tbsp oil
Preparation:
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and splutter cumin seeds and chana dal.
- Add chopped green chillies, garlic and ginger and saute.
- Add chopped shallots and saute well till soft.
- Then add chopped cabbage, tamarind and salt and saute till the cabbage turns tender.
- Add roasted gram to this and roast for a minute. Switch off the flame and let it cool.
- Then grind together to a smooth paste adding 1 cup of water and transfer to a serving bowl.
- Adjust the salt and water to get a required consistency.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and fry urad dal, asafoetida, dry red chilli and curry leaves.
