Ingredients:


1/2 cup toor dal

1 cup yam/ chena, peeled and cubed

10 shallots

1 tomato, chopped

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

salt to taste

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

2 garlic cloves, crushed

1 sprig curry leaves

1 tsp chilli flakes

1 tbsp coconut oil


Preparation:


  1. In a pressure cooker, add toor dal, yam, shallots, tomato, turmeric powder, salt and enough water and cook for 3 whistles at medium flame.
  2. Heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add crushed garlic, curry leaves and chilli flakes and saute for a minute.
  3. Then add the cooked dal-yam mixture and mix well. Adjust the salt and add little water if it is very thick and boil well on medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Switch off the flame and serve hot with rice..
