Chocolate and Vanilla Butter Cake

Ingredients:


1 1/2 cup plain flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp salt

175 gm unsalted butter, softened

1 cup sugar, powdered

4 eggs

1 tsp vanilla essence

1/4 cup + 1 tbsp milk

2 tsp + 2 tbsp cocoa powder


Preparation:


  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degree celcius. Grease a baking pan with butter / baking spray or line with baking paper.
  2. Sift plain flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl and keep it aside.
  3. In another bowl, add butter and sugar and beat well until creamy and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Add vanilla essence and 1/4 cup milk and beat until it has been incorporated.
  6. Add flour mixture little by little and beat well until combined,
  7. Divide the batter into three equal parts- in one part add 2 tsp cocoa powder and beat well.
  8. In another part add 2 tbsp cocoa powder and 1 tbsp milk and beat well.
  9. In the third part, keep the remaining vanilla batter for the vanilla layer.
  10. In the prepared baking pan, layer bottom with the darkest batter and then with the lighter batter and top with the vanilla batter.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
  12. Cool for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely... Cut into pieces and serve...
