Crab Sukka

Ingredients:

3/4 kg crabs, cleaned

8-9 whole dry red chillies

2 tsp coriander seeds

gooseberry sized tamarind

6-7 garlic cloves

1/2 tsp + 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp ginger, crushed

1 tbsp garlic, crushed

2 onions, sliced

2 green chillies, slit

2 sprig curry leaves

2 tomatoes, chopped

1 tsp garam masala

3/4 cup grated coconut

salt to taste

2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped

Preparation:

  1. Cut the crabs into pieces, clean it and keep it aside.
  2. Soak red chillies in hot water for 30 minutes.
  3. In a blender, add drained red chillies, coriander seeds, tamarind, garlic and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and grind together to a paste adding little water.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and add crushed garlic and ginger and saute well.
  5. Add sliced onions and salt and saute well.
  6. Add green chillies and curry leaves and mix well.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes and mix well and cook covered till soft.
  8. Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, ground chilli paste and mix well till the raw smell goes.
  9. Add garam masala into this and mix well.
  10. Then add cleaned crab pieces and 1/2 cup of water ( add water to the mixie jar and rinse and add this) and salt , mix well and cook covered at low-medium till done.
  11. Add grated coconut to this and mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
  12. Add curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves and mix well. Remove from the flame and serve...
