Ingredients:


2 cups white thin beaten rice ( poha / aval / avalakki )

1 small cucumber ( 1 - 1 1/4 cup grated cucumber )

1/2-3/4 cup grated coconut

salt to taste

2-3 dry red chillies, broken

1 sprig curry leaves

1 tsp chana dal

1 1/2 tsp urad dal

1 tsp mustard seeds

a pinch of asafoetida

2 tbsp peanuts / ground nut

2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped

1 1/2 tbsp oil


Preparation:


  1. In a bowl, add beaten rice, grated cucumber, grated coconut and salt and mix well with hand. Keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and add urad dal, chana dal, dry red chillies, curry leaves, peanuts and a pinch of asafoetida and roast well at low flame till colour starts to change to golden brown.
  3. Then add beaten rice mixture and mix well gently till well combined.
  4. Add chopped coriander leaves and mix well and remove from the flame.


  • If the beaten rice / poha is thick, just rinse well in water and use...
