Ingredients:


3 green tomatoes / pacha thakkali

1 small onion, chopped

3-4 green chillies

1/2 cup coriander leaves

1/4 cup mint leaves

3-4 tbsp grated coconut

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp chana dal

1 tsp + 1/4 tsp urad dal

salt to taste

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1 sprig curry leaves

2 dry red chillies

2 tsp + 2 tsp oil


Preparation:


  1. Wash and chop the green tomatoes and keep it aside.
  2. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, chana dal and 1 tsp urad dal and roast till golden brown.
  3. Add chopped green tomatoes, onion and green chillies and salt and saute for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Then cook covered till the tomatoes are cooked and soft.
  5. Now add the coriander leaves and mint leaves and mix well.
  6. Add grated coconut into this and saute for a minute. .
  7. Switch off the flame and allow to cool and then grind to a paste adding enough water.
  8. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and add 1/4 tsp urad dal, dry red chillies and curry leaves and fry.
  9. Pour this tempering over chutney and mix well. Adjust the salt and serve with idli / dosa...
