Ingredients:
3 semi ripe guava, chopped ( about 3/4 cup )
1 1/2 + 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp pepper corns
1-2 dry red chillies
5 garlic cloves
1 tomato, chopped
2 sprig curry leaves
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp asafoetida
salt to taste
2-3 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
1 lemon ( 4-5 tbsp )
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tbsp coconut oil
Preparation:
- Crush 1 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, pepper corns, dry red chillies and garlic cloves together using a mortar and pestle / small blender.
- Then add few curry leaves and chopped tomato and crush together to a coarse paste and keep it aside.
- Grind chopped guava to a smooth paste and strain out the juice to get 1 1/2 cup.
- Transfer the guava juice to a pan and add turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt and 2 cups of water and mix well.
- Add the coarsely ground paste and chopped coriander leaves, mix well and boil on low-medium flame until froth starts forming on top. Switch off the flame.
- Heat coconut oil in a small pan and splutter mustard seeds and 1/4 tsp cumin seeds. Add dry red chillies and curry leaves and fry.
- Add this tempering to the rasam and allow to cool down for 3-4 minutes and then squeeze the lemon juice and mix well. Serve with rice...
