Kaliyadakka / Cheeda

Ingredients:

1 cup rice flour

3/4 cup grated coconut

3-4 shallots

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

salt to taste

1 tsp ghee

1/2 cup boiling water

oil, for frying

Preparation:

  1. Grind the grated coconut with shallots and cumin seeds to a paste.
  2. In a mixing bowl, add rice flour, ground coconut paste, salt and ghee and mix well with hand.
  3. Add required boiling water and mix well with a spoon and then knead well to a soft dough.
  4. Then make small soft balls out of the dough.
  5. Heat oil in a pan and carefully drop the prepared balls in batches into the hot oil.
  6. Keep it in high flame for 45 seconds and then keep the flame low-medium and fry until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove from the oil and drain them on a paper towel.
  8. Cool down to room temperature and then store in an air tight container. Enjoy as a tea time snack…
