Ingredients:


2 raw banana / plantain / kaya, peeled and chopped

1/2 cup dried prawns / unakka chemmeen

1 big tomato, chopped

1 tsp chilli powder

1/2 tsp coriander powder

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1 cup grated coconut

small lemon sized tamarind

salt to taste

2 shallots

1 sprig curry leaves

a pinch of chilli powder

3 tsp oil


Preparation:


  1. Soak tamarind in little water, extract its juice and keep it aside.
  2. Grind grated coconut to a paste adding little water and keep it aside.
  3. Heat 1 tsp oil in a clay pot / pan and roast the cleaned dried prawns.
  4. Add chopped plantain and tomato and saute for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  6. Add tamarind water and hot water and cook covered till done.
  7. Then add ground coconut and mix well and cook for 5 minutes at low flame. Adjust the salt and switch off the flame.
  8. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan and add sliced shallots and curry leaves and fry till brown.
  9. Add a pinch of chilli powder and switch off the flame.
  10. Add the seasoning over the curry and mix well and serve it with hot rice...
