kudampuliyitta-chemmeen-muringakka-prawns-drumsticks-curry

Ingredients:


1/2 kg prawns / chemmeen, cleaned

2 drumsticks, cut into pieces

2 green chillies, slit

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 kudampuli / gambooge, soaked in water for 15 minutes

3/4-1 cup grated coconut

2 tsp chilli powder

1 piece ginger

salt to taste

3 shallots, sliced

1 sprig curry leaves

2 tsp coconut oil


Preparation:


  1. Clean the prawns and keep it aside. ( I used small prawns ).
  2. Grind grated coconut, chilli powder and ginger together to a smooth paste adding little water and keep it aside.
  3. In a clay pot / manchatti, add the cleaned prawns, drumsticks, green chillies, turmeric powder and salt and cook it adding enough water.
  4. Then add ground coconut paste and 1 1/2 cup of water and mix well.
  5. Adjust salt and add kudampuli and mix well and cook at medium flame for 6-8 minutes.
  6. Heat coconut oil in a small pan and add sliced shallots and curry leaves and fry till brown.
  7. Add this seasoning to curry and mix well. Serve with rice, pathiri, appam, puttu etc...
