Mutton Curry - Kerala Style

Ingredients:

3/4 kg mutton

2 big onions, sliced

1 1/2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

2 green chillies, chopped

1 sprig curry leaves

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1 tbsp coriander powder

1 tbsp chilli powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

1/2 tsp fennel powder

1 big tomato, chopped

1/2 tsp garam masala

1/2 tsp pepper powder

salt to taste

2 tbsp coconut oil

Preparation:

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add sliced onions and saute well adding salt.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste, green chillies and curry leaves and saute well till raw smell goes.
  3. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, chilli powder, garam masala and fennel powder and saute well.
  4. Add chopped tomato and mix well and cook covered for 3 minutes till soft.
  5. Add cleaned mutton pieces and mix well for 5 minutes.
  6. Then add 3/4 cup of water, mix well and pressure cook for 5-6 whistles or till cooked well.
  7. When the pressure releases, open the cooker and add garam masala and pepper powder and mix well and boil well till the gravy thickens.
  8. Switch off the flame and serve with pathiri, idiyappam, appam, ghee rice etc…
