Nadan Njandu Curry / Crab Curry

Ingredients:
1/2 kg crab, cleaned
1 onion, sliced
15-20 shallots, sliced
1 piece ginger, crushed
5-6 garlic cloves, crushed
3 green chillies, slit
1 big tomato, sliced
1 sprig curry leaves
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder
1/4 tsp + 1/4 tsp garam masala
3/4 tsp pepper powder
1 cup coconut milk
salt to taste
3 tbsp coconut oil
Preparation:
- Clean and cut the crabs into pieces and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a manchatti / earthen pot and splutter mustard seeds.
- Add sliced onion, shallots and salt and saute well till onion gets transparent.
- Add crushed ginger-garlic and saute well till raw smell goes.
- Add slit green chillies and saute well. Add sliced tomato and saute well till soft.
- Then add turmeric powder, coriander powder, kashmiri chilli powder, 1/4 tsp garam masala and pepper powder and mix well till raw smell goes.
- Add 1 cup warm water and salt and mix well.
- Add cleaned crab into this and mix well till the masala is well coated with the crabs.
- Add curry leaves and cook covered for 15 minutes until the crabs are cooked well.
- Now add coconut milk and 1/4 tsp garam masala and mix.
- Adjust salt and cook covered at low flame for 5 minutes.
- Switch off the flame and keep it covered until ready to use...Serve with rice, pathiri, neer dosa etc...
