Pacha Thakkali - Muringakka Ozhichu Curry / Green Tomato - Drumstick Curry

Ingredients:

2 drumsticks, cut into pieces

3 big green tomatoes, choppped

1 tsp + 1/2 tsp kashmiri chilli powder

1/2 tsp + 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1 cup grated coconut

2 green chillies

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

6 shallots

salt to taste

1 tsp mustard seeds

1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds

3 dry red chillies

1 sprig curry leaves

1 1/2 tbsp coconut oil

Preparation:

  1. In a pan/ clay pot, boil 3 cups of water and add chopped drumsticks, green tomato, 1 tsp kashmiri chilli powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and salt and mix well and
  2. Grind grated coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds, 3 shallots and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder together to a paste adding enough water.
  3. Add this ground paste to the curry and mix well. Adjust water and salt and boil well at low flame for about 5 minutes.
  4. Heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add fenugreek seeds, 3 sliced shallots, dry red chillies and curry leaves and fry till shallots turn brown in colour.
  5. Switch off the flame and add 1/2 tsp kashmiri chilli powder and mix well.
  6. Then pour this seasoning to the curry and mix well. Serve as a side dish with rice…
