Ingredients:


2 big raw plantains / raw banana / pachakaya / kaya

1/2-3/4 cup kadala / black chickpeas

1 cup grated coconut

2-3 green chillies

3 shallots

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

2 garlic cloves

1 tsp turmeric powder

1/4 tsp pepper powder

1 tsp mustard seeds

1-2 sprig curry leaves

2 dry red chillies

salt to taste

1 tbsp oil


Preparation:


  1. Soak black chickpeas/ kadala overnight in water and pressure cook it adding 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, little salt and enough water till soft. Keep it aside.
  2. Peel and chop the plantains into pieces and put them in a bowl of water.
  3. Grind grated coconut with green chillies, shallots, cumin seeds, pepper powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and garlic to a coarse mixture and keep it aside.
  4. In a thick bottomed pan, add chopped raw plantains, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt and 1/2 cup of water and cook covered at low flame till done.
  5. Then add cooked kadala to this cooked raw plantain and mix well.
  6. Add the ground coconut mixture and little water and mix well. Adjust the salt and cook covered for 4-5 minutes at low flame.
  7. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add dry red chillies and curry leaves and pour this over the puzhukku and mix well. Serve with rice or kanji...
