Prawn / Chemmeen Kakkam

Ingredients:
1 kg prawns/ chemmeen, cleaned
1 + 3 onions, sliced
1-1 1/2 tbsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 inch ginger, crushed
5 garlic cloves, crushed
1 green chilli, chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder
1/2 tbsp coriander powder
1/2 cup water
1 tsp garam masala
2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
salt to taste
oil, as required
Preparation:
- Clean the prawns and marinate with red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
- Fry 1 sliced onion till caramelised and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the marinated prawns and keep it aside.
- In the same oil, add 3 sliced onions, crushed ginger, garlic and green chilli and saute till soft.
- Add chopped tomatoes and saute well till mushy.
- Add kashmiri chilli powder, coriander powder and salt and saute for 2-3 minutes on low flame.
- Add 1/2 cup water and cook on low flame till oil separates.
- Add fried prawns into this and mix well.
- Then add caramelised onion crushed with hand and mix well.
- Add garam masala and mix well. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame. Serve hot...
