Prawn / Chemmeen Kakkam

Ingredients:

1 kg prawns/ chemmeen, cleaned

1 + 3 onions, sliced

1-1 1/2 tbsp red chilli powder

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1 inch ginger, crushed

5 garlic cloves, crushed

1 green chilli, chopped

2 tomatoes, chopped

1 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder

1/2 tbsp coriander powder

1/2 cup water

1 tsp garam masala

2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped

salt to taste

oil, as required

Preparation:

  1. Clean the prawns and marinate with red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
  2. Fry 1 sliced onion till caramelised and keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and fry the marinated prawns and keep it aside.
  4. In the same oil, add 3 sliced onions, crushed ginger, garlic and green chilli and saute till soft.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and saute well till mushy.
  6. Add kashmiri chilli powder, coriander powder and salt and saute for 2-3 minutes on low flame.
  7. Add 1/2 cup water and cook on low flame till oil separates.
  8. Add fried prawns into this and mix well.
  9. Then add caramelised onion crushed with hand and mix well.
  10. Add garam masala and mix well. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame. Serve hot...
