prawn-vindaloo

Ingredients:


400 gm prawns, cleaned

8-10 whole dry kashmiri chillies

small piece ginger, sliced

10 garlic cloves

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

1 tsp cumin seeds

1/2 tbsp pepper corns

1 tbsp coriander seeds

3/4 tsp turmeric powder

5-6 cloves

1 small stick cinnamon

4 tbsp vinegar

2 onions, finely chopped

1 tomato, pureed

1/2 tsp sugar

water, as required

salt to taste

4 tbsp oil


Preparation:


  1. Soak dry kashmiri chillies ( seeds removed ) in hot water for an hour.
  2. In a blender, add drained kashmiri chillies, cinnamon, cloves, pepper corns, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, mustard seeds, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder and grind together to a fine paste adding vinegar. Add little water if required.
  3. Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan and add finely chopped onion and saute well till golden brown.
  4. Add tomato puree and salt into this and mix well.
  5. Now add the ground vindaloo masala and saute well till the raw smell disappears.
  6. Then add the cleaned prawns and mix well.
  7. Add 3/4 -1 cup of water and mix well and let it cook for about 7-8 minutes.
  8. Check for salt and add more if required.
  9. Switch off the flame and add sugar and mix well. Serve hot with appam, dosa etc...
