Ripe Papaya Pachadi

Ingredients:


2 cups ripe papaya, chopped

1 1/4 cup yogurt

3/4 cup grated coconut

1/4 - 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

3-4 green chillies, slit

1/2 tsp mustard seeds, crushed

salt to taste

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

3 dry red chillies

1 sprig curry leaves

1/4 tsp chilli powder

1 tbsp coconut oil


Preparation:


  1. Peel and deseed the well ripe papaya and chop it into small pieces.
  2. In a pan, add chopped papaya, green chillies, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt and enough water and cook covered at medium flame.
  3. Grind together grated coconut, cumin seeds and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder to a smooth paste adding little water.
  4. When the papaya pieces are fully cooked, mash it well with a ladle.
  5. Add the ground coconut paste and 1/2 tsp crushed mustard seeds and mix well.
  6. Cook for few minutes at low flame until the raw smell goes and the coconut mixture gets cook well.
  7. Reduce the flame to very low and slowly add the beaten yogurt and stir well. Don't allow to boil.
  8. Adjust the salt and switch off the flame. 
  9. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add dry red chillies, curry leaves and chilli powder.
  10. Pour this seasoning into the pachadi and mix well. Serve with rice...
