Tandoori Mutton / Lamb Chops

Ingredients:

1/2 kg mutton chops / lamb chops

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 1/2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tbsp chilli powder

1/2 tbsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

1 tsp cumin powder

1/4 tsp pepper powder

1 tbsp lemon juice

1/2 cup yogurt

1 tbsp tandoori masala powder

2 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped

1 tsp kasuri methi, crushed

salt to taste

3 tbsp oil

Preparation:

  1. In a pan, add mutton chops, finely chopped onion, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, salt and 1 1/2 cup water and mix well and bring to boil.
  2. Then cook covered at low flame for 25-30 minutes till tender. Cook on high flame until water dries up. Keep it aside for 6-8 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, add chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, cumin powder, pepper powder, lemon juice, yogurt, chopped coriander leaves, tandoori masala and crushed kasuri methi and mix well.
  4. Add cooked mutton chops and coat well with masala and keep it covered to marinate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Heat oil in a pan and add marinated mutton chops with remaining marinade, cover and cook on medium-low flame for 5 minutes.
  6. Then cook uncovered on both sides until golden brown.
  7. To get smoky flavour, place a small steel bowl inside the pan. Heat a piece of charcoal on direct flame until it is nicely hot, this will take a few minutes. Once the charcoal is hot, place it in the steel bowl and pour a tsp of oil on top.
  8. Cover the pan immediately with a tight lid and keep it in low flame for 2 minutes.
  9. Transfer to a serving plate and serve garnished with chopped coriander leaves...
