Ingredients:


1/2 kg fish, cleaned

2 kudampuli / gambooge

2 medium tomatoes

1 1/2 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder

1 tbsp ginger, chopped

2 green chillies, slit

12-15 shallots, sliced

2 sprig curry leaves

salt to taste

1/2 tsp pepper powder

1/4 tsp fenugreek powder

1 1/2-2 tbsp coconut oil


Preparation:


  1. Cut the fish into pieces, clean it and keep it aside.
  2. Wash and soak kudampuli in 1/4 cup of water for 15 minutes.
  3. Grind tomatoes and kashmiri chilli powder together to a paste and keep it aside.
  4. Heat coconut oil in a clay pot / manchatti and add chopped ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and sliced shallots and saute well.
  5. Add ground tomato paste and little water ( add little water to the mixie jar and rinse and add this) and saute well till the raw smell goes and the oil separates.
  6. Then add soaked kudampuli with water, salt and water as required ( about 2 1/2 cups) and mix well.
  7. When it starts to boil, add cleaned fish pieces and allow to boil well and cook 3/4 th covered at low flame till the gravy thickens.
  8. Adjust the salt and add pepper powder and few curry leaves and cook uncovered for another 4-5 minutes.
  9. Add fenugreek powder and mix well and switch off the flame. Serve with rice, kappa etc..
