Ingredients:
1/2 kg fish, cleaned
2 kudampuli / gambooge
2 medium tomatoes
1 1/2 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder
1 tbsp ginger, chopped
2 green chillies, slit
12-15 shallots, sliced
2 sprig curry leaves
salt to taste
1/2 tsp pepper powder
1/4 tsp fenugreek powder
1 1/2-2 tbsp coconut oil
Preparation:
- Cut the fish into pieces, clean it and keep it aside.
- Wash and soak kudampuli in 1/4 cup of water for 15 minutes.
- Grind tomatoes and kashmiri chilli powder together to a paste and keep it aside.
- Heat coconut oil in a clay pot / manchatti and add chopped ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and sliced shallots and saute well.
- Add ground tomato paste and little water ( add little water to the mixie jar and rinse and add this) and saute well till the raw smell goes and the oil separates.
- Then add soaked kudampuli with water, salt and water as required ( about 2 1/2 cups) and mix well.
- When it starts to boil, add cleaned fish pieces and allow to boil well and cook 3/4 th covered at low flame till the gravy thickens.
- Adjust the salt and add pepper powder and few curry leaves and cook uncovered for another 4-5 minutes.
- Add fenugreek powder and mix well and switch off the flame. Serve with rice, kappa etc..
