Ingredients:
2 1/2 cup unakka kappa / dried tapioca, soaked in water for 8 hours / overnight
1/2 cup vanpayar / red beans, soaked in water for 8 hours / overnight
1 1/2 cup grated coconut
4-5 green chillies
3/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
1-2 sprig curry leaves
2 dry red chillies
salt to taste
1 tbsp coconut oil
Preparation:
- Wash well unakka kappa / dried tapioca and soak them overnight in enough water. Then break them down to small pieces and rinse well.
- Then pressure cook it adding enough water till done and drain the water and keep it aside.
- Soak red beans / vanpayar overnight in water and pressure cook it adding 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, little salt and enough water till soft. Keep it aside.
- Grind grated coconut with green chillies, cumin seeds, few curry leaves and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder to a coarse mixture and keep it aside.
- In a thick bottomed pan, add cooked dried tapioca, vanpayar, coconut mixture and salt and mix well and cook covered at low-medium flame for 5 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add dry red chillies and curry leaves and pour this over the puzhukku and mix well. Serve with chammanthi / fish curry...
