Ingredients:


2 1/2 cup unakka kappa / dried tapioca, soaked in water for 8 hours / overnight

1/2 cup vanpayar / red beans, soaked in water for 8 hours / overnight

1 1/2 cup grated coconut

4-5 green chillies

3/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp mustard seeds

1-2 sprig curry leaves

2 dry red chillies

salt to taste

1 tbsp coconut oil


Preparation:


  1. Wash well unakka kappa / dried tapioca and soak them overnight in enough water. Then break them down to small pieces and rinse well.
  2. Then pressure cook it adding enough water till done and drain the water and keep it aside.
  3. Soak red beans / vanpayar overnight in water and pressure cook it adding 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, little salt and enough water till soft. Keep it aside.
  4. Grind grated coconut with green chillies, cumin seeds, few curry leaves and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder to a coarse mixture and keep it aside.
  5. In a thick bottomed pan, add cooked dried tapioca, vanpayar, coconut mixture and salt and mix well and cook covered at low-medium flame for 5 minutes.
  6. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add dry red chillies and curry leaves and pour this over the puzhukku and mix well. Serve with chammanthi / fish curry...
