Ingredients:
1 cup white chickpeas / vella kadala / chana
1 big onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 sprig curry leaves
1/2 cup coconut slices / thengakothu
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp chicken masala (optional)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil
Preparation:
- Wash and soak the white chickpeas in water for 8 hours or overnight.
- In a pressure cooker, add the soaked chickpeas and cook it adding about 2 1/2 cup water and salt for 2 whistles. Keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
- Add the coconut slices and saute till light golden colour.
- Add chopped onion, garlic and curry leaves and saute well.
- Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and chicken masala (optional) and mix well.
- Then add the cooked chickpeas with the water and mix well with the masala and cook on medium flame until it is dry.
- Adjust the salt and switch off the flame. Serve with rice, chapati, neer dosa etc...
