Ingredients:


1 cup white chickpeas / vella kadala / chana

1 big onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 sprig curry leaves

1/2 cup coconut slices / thengakothu

1 tsp chilli powder

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

1/2 tsp chicken masala (optional)

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

salt to taste

1 tbsp oil


Preparation:


  1. Wash and soak the white chickpeas in water for 8 hours or overnight.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked chickpeas and cook it adding about 2 1/2 cup water and salt for 2 whistles. Keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  4. Add the coconut slices and saute till light golden colour.
  5. Add chopped onion, garlic and curry leaves and saute well.
  6. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and chicken masala (optional) and mix well.
  7. Then add the cooked chickpeas with the water and mix well with the masala and cook on medium flame until it is dry.
  8. Adjust the salt and switch off the flame. Serve with rice, chapati, neer dosa etc...
