Cinnamon Roll

Ingredients:
For the Cinnamon Roll:
2 3/4 cups flour, extra if needed
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tbsp/ 43 gm unsalted butter, for dough
3/4 cup milk
2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
1 large egg
3 tbsp/ 43 gm unsalted butter, for filling
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
For the Vanilla Icing:
1 cup icing sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
2-3 tablespoons milk (depending on consistency)
Preparation:
For the Cinnamon Roll:
- In a large bowl / bowl of stand mixer, whisk together flour, sugar and salt. Set it aside.
- Add milk and butter in a heatproof bowl, and microwave until butter has melted.
- Whisk in yeast to the butter and milk mixture.
- Pour this into the dry mixture and then add the egg and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer dough on a floured surface and knead until you get a smooth ball.
- Place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- For the filling, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough out into a 36 x 20 cm rectangle, and spread softened butter all over.
- Sprinkle the filling all over the dough and then roll it up to make a 35 cm log.
- Cut into even rolls and place it in a lightly greased baking dish.
- Cover the dish and let it rise for 60-90 minutes (double in size).
- Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake for 24-27 minutes or until lightly brown.
For the Vanilla Icing:
- In a bowl, whisk icing sugar, vanilla essence and milk.
- Drizzle the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls.
