Ingredients:


For the Cinnamon Roll:


2 3/4 cups flour, extra if needed

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tbsp/ 43 gm unsalted butter, for dough

3/4 cup milk

2 1/4 teaspoons yeast

1 large egg

3 tbsp/ 43 gm unsalted butter, for filling

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 tbsp ground cinnamon


For the Vanilla Icing:


1 cup icing sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence

2-3 tablespoons milk (depending on consistency)


Preparation:


For the Cinnamon Roll:


  1. In a large bowl / bowl of stand mixer, whisk together flour, sugar and salt. Set it aside.
  2. Add milk and butter in a heatproof bowl, and microwave until butter has melted.
  3. Whisk in yeast to the butter and milk mixture.
  4. Pour this into the dry mixture and then add the egg and mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Transfer dough on a floured surface and knead until you get a smooth ball.
  6. Place it in a lightly greased bowl, cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  7. For the filling, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Roll the dough out into a 36 x 20 cm rectangle, and spread softened butter all over.
  9. Sprinkle the filling all over the dough and then roll it up to make a 35 cm log.
  10. Cut into even rolls and place it in a lightly greased baking dish.
  11. Cover the dish and let it rise for 60-90 minutes (double in size).
  12. Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake for 24-27 minutes or until lightly brown.


For the Vanilla Icing:


  1. In a bowl, whisk icing sugar, vanilla essence and milk.
  2. Drizzle the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls.
