Mushroom Pidi / Steamed Rice Dumplings in Mushroom Gravy

Ingredients:
For Pidi (Rice dumplings)
1 1/2 cup rice flour
1/2 cup grated coconut
1/2 tsp fennel seeds
1 small onion, chopped
1 1/2-2 cups of water
salt
For Mushroom Gravy
200 gm mushrooms, cleaned and cut into pieces
1 onion, sliced
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
2 green chillies, chopped
1 tbsp chilli powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp pepper powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 1/2 cup semi thick coconut milk ( 2nd extract )
1/2 cup thick coconut milk ( 1st extract )
1 tsp vinegar
salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
1 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped
Preparation:
- For preparing pidi / rice dumplings, first crush grated coconut, fennel seeds and small onion together.
- Boil water and salt in a pan. Add this boiling water to the rice flour and mix well.
- Add the crushed coconut mixture and knead well to a smooth dough.
- Make small balls out of the dough and slightly flatten it and steam cook in a steamer for 10-12 minutes..Keep them aside..
- To prepare the mushroom gravy, heat oil in a pan and add sliced onion and saute well adding little salt.
- Add chopped green chillies and ginger-garlic paste and saute well till the raw smell goes.
- Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder and garam masala and mix well till the raw smell goes.
- Now add cleaned mushroom pieces and saute well for 2-3 minutes.
- Add 1 1/2 cups semi thick coconut milk (2nd extract coconut milk) and mix well and cook covered for 6-7 minutes at low flame.
- Then add prepared pidi / rice dumplings into this, mix well and cook it on low flame for 6-7 minutes.
- Finally add 1/2 cup thick coconut milk ( 1st extract ) and 1 tsp vinegar and mix well for 2-3 minutes or until the gravy is thick and well coated with rice dumplings.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame....Serve as a main dish...
