Mushroom Pidi / Steamed Rice Dumplings in Mushroom Gravy

Ingredients:


For Pidi (Rice dumplings)


1 1/2 cup rice flour

1/2 cup grated coconut

1/2 tsp fennel seeds

1 small onion, chopped

1 1/2-2 cups of water

salt


For Mushroom Gravy


200 gm mushrooms, cleaned and cut into pieces

1 onion, sliced

1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

2 green chillies, chopped

1 tbsp chilli powder

1 tbsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp pepper powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

1 1/2 cup semi thick coconut milk ( 2nd extract )

1/2 cup thick coconut milk ( 1st extract )

1 tsp vinegar

salt to taste

2 tbsp oil

1 tbsp coriander leaves, chopped


Preparation:


  1. For preparing pidi / rice dumplings, first crush grated coconut, fennel seeds and small onion together.
  2. Boil water and salt in a pan. Add this boiling water to the rice flour and mix well.
  3. Add the crushed coconut mixture and knead well to a smooth dough.
  4. Make small balls out of the dough and slightly flatten it and steam cook in a steamer for 10-12 minutes..Keep them aside..
  5. To prepare the mushroom gravy, heat oil in a pan and add sliced onion and saute well adding little salt.
  6. Add chopped green chillies and ginger-garlic paste and saute well till the raw smell goes.
  7. Add chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, pepper powder and garam masala and mix well till the raw smell goes.
  8. Now add cleaned mushroom pieces and saute well for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Add 1 1/2 cups semi thick coconut milk (2nd extract coconut milk) and mix well and cook covered for 6-7 minutes at low flame.
  10. Then add prepared pidi / rice dumplings into this, mix well and cook it on low flame for 6-7 minutes.
  11. Finally add 1/2 cup thick coconut milk ( 1st extract ) and 1 tsp vinegar and mix well for 2-3 minutes or until the gravy is thick and well coated with rice dumplings.
  12. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame....Serve as a main dish...
