Oliebollen / Dutch Donuts ( Doughnuts )

Ingredients:
2 cups plain flour
3 tbsp + 1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup lukewarm milk
1 large egg, beaten
1 tsp yeast
1 tsp vanilla essence
oil, for frying
Preparation:
- Add lukewarm milk, 1 tsp sugar and yeast in a bowl / jug and gently mix and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, add plain flour, 3 tbsp sugar and salt and mix until combined.
- Add beaten egg and vanilla essence and mix.
- Add milk-yeast mixture and mix until incorporated.
- Then knead with your hand for 2-3 minutes. ( If the dough is dry, add 1-2 tsp milk or water).
- Cover and let it rest in a warm place for 60-90 minutes. Gently mix with a spatula.
- Heat oil in a deep pan on a medium flame.
- Apply some oil in fingers and shape the dough with your fingers and drop it carefully to hot oil. ( This donuts will sink to the bottom of the pan and then pop back.)
- Flip them in between and fry until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel.
- Sieve some powdered sugar ( icing sugar ) over them and serve...
- Oliebollen ( oily balls ) are Dutch donuts. They are crisp on the outside with a soft interior and can be filled with raisins and dusted with powdered sugar..
