Poricha Pathiri with Puttu Podi

Poricha Pathiri with Puttu Podi is a delicious Malabar breakfast item. These small, round pathiris are made from a dough of puttu podi, rice flour, and a fragrant mixture of coconut, shallots, and cumin, then deep-fried until golden brown. Serve them hot with your favorite spicy curry.

Ingredients:


1 cup puttu podi

1/4 cup rice flour

1 tsp black sesame seeds

1 3/4 cup boiling water, or as required

1/2 cup grated coconut

1 tsp cumin seeds

3 shallots

salt to taste

oil, for frying


Preparation:


  1. Crush grated coconut, shallots and cumin seeds together and keep it aside.
  2. In a bowl, add puttu podi, rice flour, salt, black sesame seeds and crushed mixture and mix well.
  3. Add boiling water as required and mix well with a spatula or wooden spoon.
  4. Then knead well when it is still warm to a soft dough.
  5. Roll the prepared dough into a thick big pathiri and cut out many small round pathiris from this using a lid or any other round shape.
  6. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry these small pathiris until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Serve hot with chicken curry or any other spicy curry...
