Rava Muttayappam / Mutta Surka

A delicious and crispy savory dish made with semolina and coconut, served hot with spicy curries.

Ingredients:


1 cup rava / semolina

2 tbsp aval / beaten rice flakes, soaked in little water

3/4 cup grated coconut

1 egg

salt to taste

oil, for frying


Preparation:


  1. In a bowl, add rava, soaked aval and 1 cup of water and mix well and keep it covered for 15 minutes.
  2. Add grated coconut, egg, salt and enough water into this and mix well.
  3. Then transfer to a blender and grind well to a smooth semi thick batter. It should have a pourable consistency.
  4. Transfer the batter to a bowl and keep it covered for 20 minutes.
  5. Heat oil in a deep frying pan and pour a ladle of batter and allow to cook at medium flame.
  6. When puffed up, flip it to other side and fry till it turns light golden brown colour.
  7. Serve hot with any spicy curry of your choice…
