Ingredients:


1/2 kg mutton, cut into pieces

1 big onion, sliced

1 tomato, chopped

3 green chillies, slit

1 1/2 tsp garlic, chopped

1 1/2 tsp ginger, chopped

1 tbsp chilli powder

1 tbsp coriander powder

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1 cup grated coconut

1/2 onion, chopped

1/2 tsp fennel seeds

salt to taste

oil, as required


For tempering:


1 sprig curry leaves

1/2 onion, sliced


Preparation:


  1. In a pressure cooker, add cleaned mutton pieces, sliced 1 onion, tomato, green chillies, ginger, garlic, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of water and pressure cook until the mutton is cooked well.
  3. Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan and add fennel seeds, 1/2 onion chopped and grated coconut and roast until brown.
  4. Add a pinch of turmeric powder and mix well.
  5. Switch off the flame and keep it aside to cool and then grind to a smooth paste adding little water and keep it aside.
  6. Add the ground coconut paste to the cooked mutton and allow to boil on medium flame.
  7. Heat 1 1/2 tsp oil in a small pan and add 1/2 sliced onion and curry leaves and fry till brown.
  8. Add this to the curry and keep covered until its ready to serve...Serve with pathiri, idiyappam, neer dosa, ghee rice etc...
