Jackfruit Buns / Chakka Buns

Ingredients:

15 ripe jackfruit bulbs / 1 cup jackfruit , chopped
1/2 cup yogurt / curd
1/2-3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp ghee
2 cup plain flour ( add more if required )
oil for deep frying

Preparation:

  1. In a blender, add the chopped jackfruit pieces and puree / blend it well until smooth.
  2. Transfer this to a bowl and add yogurt, sugar, baking soda, cumin seeds, salt and 1 tbsp ghee and mix well.
  3. Add plain flour as required and mix well with a spoon without any lumps.
  4. Then knead it well to a soft dough adding 1 tbsp ghee and keep it covered for 6-8 hours.
  5. Make small balls out of this dough and roll each dough in a floured surface to make poori using a rolling pin.
  6. Heat oil in a pan and deep fry them in the hot oil till golden on both sides at medium flame.

  • Add more plain flour, if required as it may vary with the size of jackfruit bulbs / chakka chula used….
