Broccoli Chutney


1 cup broccoli, chopped
2 green chillies
small piece ginger, chopped
1 1/2 tsp urad dal
1 1/2 tsp chana dal
3 tbsp grated coconut
small piece of tamarind
salt to taste
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
few curry leaves
2 tsp oil


  1. Heat 1/2 tsp oil in a pan and roast chana dal and urad dal and keep it aside.
  2. In another pan, heat 1 tsp of oil and saute the chopped broccoli adding little salt till its cooked. Switch off the flame and allow to cool.
  3. In a blender, add the grated coconut, ginger, roasted chana dal, urad dal, tamarind, salt and broccoli and grind to a smooth paste adding 1/2 cup of water.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and add curry leaves.
  5. Pour this tempering over chutney and mix well.
  6. If the chutney is too thick, add some water and mix well. Check the salt and add if required..Serve with idli/ dosa..
