Ingredients:
1 cup horse gram / muthira
1/2 tsp + 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp + 3/4 tsp chilli powder
1 cup grated coconut
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 green chilli
3 garlic cloves
2 + 4 shallots
2 sprig curry leaves
salt to taste
1 tsp mustard seeds
2 dry red chillies
1 1/2 tbsp coconut oil
Preparation:
- Wash and soak horse gram in water for 5-6 hours or overnight.
- In a pressure cooker, add horse gram, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp chilli powder, salt and 2 1/2 cup water and cook for 5-6 whistles.
- Grind the grated coconut, cumin seeds, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 3/4 tsp chilli powder, green chilli, garlic, 2 shallots and few curry leaves together to a paste adding enough water.
- Once the pressures releases, open the cooker and lightly mash the cooked horse gram with spoon/ ladle.
- Then add the ground coconut paste and mix well and boil well for 10 minutes till the raw smell goes.
- Adjust the salt and switch off the flame when the gravy thickens.
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add dry red chillies, curry leaves and 4 chopped shallots and saute well till brown.
- Add a pinch of chilli powder and mix well. Pour this seasoning to the curry and keep it covered for few minutes. Mix well and serve with rice…
