Pineapple Puli Inji ( Inji Puli)


1 cup pineapple, finely chopped
2 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
4-5 green chillies, finely chopped
lemon sized tamarind
2 dried red chillies
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp jaggery / sugar
curry leaves
3/4 tsp mustard seeds
a pinch of fenugreek seeds
salt to taste
2 tbsp coconut oil


  1. Cut pineapple into fine pieces. Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup of water, extract its juice and keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.
  3. Add curry leaves, dried red chillies, chopped ginger and green chillies and saute till golden.
  4. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder and chopped pineapple, mix well and cook for 10 minutes till soft.
  5. Add tamarind extract and salt and mix well. Add little water and jaggery and cook covered for 15 minutes till it thickens.
  6. Remove from the flame and serve with rice….
