Pavakka Mezhukkupuratti / Bitter Gourd Stir Fry


250 gm bitter gourd / pavakka / kaipakka
1 tbsp garlic, crushed
6 shallots, sliced
1 sprig curry leaves
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 1/2 tsp red chilli flakes (adjust to your spice level)
salt to taste
1 1/2 tbsp coconut oil


  1. Wash and slice the bitter gourd into thin slices.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp coconut oil in a pan and add crushed garlic, sliced shallots and curry leaves and saute till light brown in colour.
  3. Add sliced bitter gourd and saute well for a minute.
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chilli flakes and salt and saute well.
  5. Then cover and cook at low flame, stirring in between.
  6. When cooked, add 1/2 tbsp coconut oil and stir well till it turns light brown in colour.
