Kappa Mutta Masala / Tapioca Egg Masala


1/2 kg tapioca / kappa
1/4 + 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
5 green chillies, chopped
3 garlic cloves, chopped
1 sprig curry leaves
2 medium onions, chopped
1 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1-1 1/2 tsp pepper powder
1/4 tsp fennel powder
3 eggs, beaten
salt to taste
2 tbsp coconut oil


  1. Peel and cut the tapioca into small cubes and cook it adding 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt and enough water till soft. Drain the water and keep it aside.
  2. Heat coconut oil in a large pan / kadai and add chopped garlic, green chillies, onions and curry leaves and saute till onion turns transparent.
  3. Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, pepper powder, fennel powder and enough salt and saute till raw smell goes.
  4. Add beaten eggs into this and scramble it well.
  5. Add the cooked tapioca, mix well and mash evenly using wooden spatula.
  6. Adjust the salt and add little more pepper powder, if required.
  7. Switch off the flame and garnish with some chopped onion and green chillies…Serve hot..
