Wheat Garlic Naan

2 cups wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp sugar
salt to taste
1/2 cup thick yogurt
2 tsp oil

black sesame seeds
garlic, finely chopped
coriander leaves, chopped
melted butter, for brushing

  1. In a bowl, add wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt and mix well.
  2. Add yogurt into this and mix well. Add enough water (about 1/2 cup water) and 2 tsp oil and knead well to a smooth dough.
  3. Spread little oil on top and keep it covered for 1 hour.
  4. After 1 hour, the dough becomes double in size and then divides the dough into equal parts.
  5. Dust with dry flour and roll the dough ball into an oval shape about 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Now sprinkle black sesame seeds, chopped garlic and chopped coriander leaves on it and roll slightly using rolling pin.
  7. Heat a tawa / pan and place the naan and cook at medium flame until bubbles starts to appear and the base is cooked and browned.
  8. Then lift the naan with tongs and cook the other side by placing directly on the flame.
  9. Move the naan all over the flame to ensure the sides and the surfaces are well cooked with some brown spots.
  10. Remove from the pan and brush naan with some melted butter and cover with a towel to keep warm.
