Drumstick / Muringakka Thoran


2 drumsticks / muringakka
1/2 cup grated coconut
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2-1 tsp chilli powder
1/2 cup grated coconut
1 garlic clove
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp urad dal
2 dry red chillies
1 sprig curry leaves
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil


  1. Cut drumsticks into pieces and keep it aside.
  2. Crush together grated coconut, cumin seeds, garlic and chilli powder and keep it aside.
  3. In a pan, add drumstick along with turmeric powder and salt and cook it covered adding little water till the drumstick cooked well and water dries up.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  5. Add urad dal and dry red chillies and fry till brown and add curry leaves.
  6. Add cooked drumsticks and coconut mixture to this and mix well and cook it for 3-4 minutes at low flame until dry.
