Nadan Chicken Curry


1 1/2 kg chicken
3 big onions, thinly sliced
1 1/2 tbsp ginger paste
1 1/2 tbsp garlic paste
2 green chillies, slit
2 sprig curry leaves
2 tomatoes, chopped
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
1 1/2-2 tbsp kashmiri chilli powder
1 heaped tbsp coriander powder
3/4 tsp turmeric powder
3/4 tsp garam masala
salt to taste
2-3 tbsp coconut oil


  1. Clean and cut the chicken into pieces. Keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan and add sliced onion, ginger paste, garlic paste, green chillies and curry leaves and saute well at medium-high flame adding little salt till golden brown.
  3. Reduce the flame and add turmeric powder, coriander powder, kashmiri chilli powder and chopped tomatoes and mix well.
  4. Add garam masala to this and mix well.
  5. Then add cleaned chicken pieces and mix well for 2 minutes.
  6. Add cubed potatoes to this and mix well for a minute.
  7. Add salt and 2 cups of water, mix well and cook it covered at medium flame till chicken is cooked.
  8. Add curry leaves and switch off the flame…Serve hot with pathiri, ghee rice etc…
