Red Spinach / Chuvanna Cheera Thoran


2 cups ( 1 bunch ) red spinach / chuvanna cheera / red amaranth, finely chopped
5 shallots, sliced
2-3 green chillies, chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
4-5 tbsp grated coconut
1 sprig curry leaves
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
salt to taste
2 tsp oil


  1. Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
  2. Add sliced shallots, curry leaves, green chillies and garlic and saute well.
  3. Add chopped spinach, turmeric powder and salt and mix well. Cover and cook at low flame until it is almost dry, stirring occasionally.
  4. Now add grated coconut, mix well and cook it covered for 2-3 minutes at low flame.
  5. Remove from flame and serve with rice…
