Vaalan Puli / Fresh Tamarind Chammanthi


flesh / pulp of 3 fresh tamarind
1 cup grated coconut
1-2 green chillies
1/4 inch ginger, chopped
3 shallots
few curry leaves
salt to taste


  1. In a small jar of a mixer, add tamarind, coconut, ginger, shallots, green chillies, few curry leaves and salt.
  2. Sprinkle 1 tsp of water and grind together to a coarse mixture.
  3. Transfer to a bowl or make round ball shape using hands.. Serve with kanji, rice etc…
