Ingredients:
300 gm kovakka/ ivy gourd
1/4 cup black chickpeas / kadala
1 small onion, chopped
3 green chillies, chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 sprig curry leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 cup grated coconut
1 tsp mustard seeds
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil
Preparation:
- Soak kadala/ chickpeas in water and pressure cook it adding enough water and salt and keep it aside.
- Wash and chop the kovakka into round pieces.
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add curry leaves and crushed garlic and fry.
- Add chopped onion and green chillies and saute till transparent.
- Add turmeric powder and chilli powder and mix well.
- Add chopped kovakka and salt, mix well and add 1/4 cup of water and cook covered on low-medium flame for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Then add cooked kadala to this and mix well. Adjust the salt.
- Add grated coconut, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes on low flame till all the water dries up… Remove from flame and serve with rice…
